Molly Haviland

Molly Haviland is a soil dork who couples a passion for terraforming degraded landscapes with academic experience in the field of Land Rehabilitation and Environmental Sciences. During her pursuit of a B.S. degree in Sustainable Living at Maharishi University of Management (MUM), she took charge of the Living Soil Compost Lab and Living Soil courses, which included soil ecology, soil microscopy, waste-resource management, and natural fertilizer production.

After completing her academic journey, Molly launched Haviland Earth Regeneration LLC (HER) in 2012, a soil-building company. HER functions as a consulting and experiential learning hub, delving into soil ecology, soil mineral balancing, soil microscopy, waste resource management, composting, and the production, application, and monitoring of liquid biological amendments.

HER's curriculum has reached students across 16 North American states and four continents. Molly's clientele spans agricultural producers, including those practicing certified organic, conventional, and regenerative farming, as well as graziers, grocery chains, universities, and government agencies. In 2015, Molly and her team initiated research into compost and organic fertilizer applications for dryland pulse and grain production in the Northern Great Plains. This endeavor led Molly to earn her master's degree in Land Rehabilitation from Montana State University in 2022.

Believing that a vibrant, living soil is at the heart of human and planetary health, HER remains committed to building soil, cultivating nourishing food, and empowering others to do the same.
